Did you know that the most affordable intervention to positively impact a child’s educational development is music?

Since 2016, our award winning non-profit foundation has implemented a research based curriculum that has proven to significantly impact 5 of the 6 developmental domains in a child’s education. These enrichment and developmental activities continue to stimulate neuroplasticity in children from birth through first grade, including minority and disabled students through age 18.

Friends of South Florida Music (FSFM) is a group of champions who ensure that children of all abilities have access to music which provides the needed building blocks to strengthen brain development and increase aptitude for future learning. In our first eight years, the program has grown from just 97 to over 1,800 musicians receiving free weekly classes during the 2025-2026 season.

Our weekly classroom presence builds trust, confidence, and empowerment among students and teachers alike. Music-making becomes an expression of shared purpose and emotional safety. Over time, previously disengaged students begin to participate, showing measurable increases in focus, confidence, and collaboration.

FSFM measures success through multiple indicators—increased student engagement, teacher and parent feedback, and professional observations of improved cognitive and emotional development. Public performances provide additional evidence of progress, as students proudly share their achievements with families and the community.

Through our efforts, FSFM ensures that every child—regardless of background—has the opportunity to experience the lifelong cognitive, emotional, and social benefits of music education.

As the sole provider of this type of art and music education, it is critical that we maintain continuity in the classrooms and schools receiving our researched curriculum. You can join us in this work by sponsoring a child for $30 per month or give a single gift and volunteer. All of this allows FSFM the opportunity to continue unlocking children’s fullest potential through music.
